Simmons Cay Reading Squad
Since the beginning of 2014, a number of NOC students at the Simmons Cay Program Center have made significant progress in reading, as reflected in standardized test scores. These students enjoy reading and take great pride in talking about the books that they have read.
As a reward, they were each given a book based on their reading level. Several students remarked that they would like to have easy access to books that they like within their own neighborhood.
Cordillo Student of the Week
Siza Vega, a second grade student at IB Elementary School in Hilton Head, has been recognized as the Cordillo “Student of the Week.” Siza is an extremely hard worker, diligently completing her homework and Compass Learning lesson every single day. Not only does she have perfect attendance, she also arrives early on most days and enjoys helping the Program Manager set up for the day. She is very kind and respectful to her peers as well as to volunteers and teachers. Kindergarten students look forward to having Siza help them get settled into their classroom each day before the program starts.
Siza joins the ranks of the Cordillo “Hall of Fame” this week, and she was excited to receive a backpack full of school supplies as a reward for her outstanding work ethic and attitude.
