Fall Celebration at Cordillo

October 20, 2014 By nocadmin

On Saturday, October 18, NOC sponsored a community celebration for residents of Cordillo Courts, The Hedges, and Woodhaven Apartments. Approximately 80 children and 30 adults joined NOC staff, past and current Board members, friends from the Italian American Club, and other volunteers for an afternoon of food, fun, and fellowship. Special thanks are due to Cordillo Program Manager Kaci Hollingsworth and NOC Board member George Palleta, who organized this event, and to Teresa Ullman, who provided Spanish translation.

All those attending enjoyed pizza, hot dogs, and watermelon.  Activities for the children included soccer, hopscotch, hula hoops, and a raffle for t-shirts, gift cards, toys, games, and books. One grateful parent spoke up to thank NOC for sponsoring the event, noting that no one had ever done anything like this for the community.

October 7, 2014 By nocadmin

NOC was recently featured in a news report on Savannah NBC affiliate, WSAV3. Reporter Ashleigh Holland noted that NOC “tutors children after school in underprivileged communities in Hilton Head and Bluffton. Organizers say the extra help their program provides can also curb crime by giving kids  positive role models.”

b-NOC welcome

A Special Hearty Thanks to Sponsors, Players, and Supporters

NOC values your generosity and partnership….

“Fore the Teachers” tournament a highly successful and wonderful event!

The sky was blue, conditions were perfect for golf, and participants were colorful and festive in their golf attire.  Congratulations to a number of deserving prize winners, including both outstanding teams and individual players.  But the real winners are children living in underserved neighborhoods and the dedicated teachers who, after a hard day’s work in school, make their way to NOC’s program centers four days a week to help these children excel academically.   Yes, NOC is making a difference in the lives of these children who are our future.  And each of you played an important role in this, as well.

Thanks for making this happen; we appreciate your support.

Warm regards

In an article titled “Money is not the answer for our bloated public education system,” columnist Diana Furchgott-Roth calls attention to the NOC model of bringing education and health services into     furchtgott-roth_hiresFeatur
underserved neighborhoods as an alternative to increased public spending on schools, which until now has resulted in few measurable results in terms of student achievement.
