Friday, March 10, was a challenging day for third and fourth graders at NOC’s New Oaks Learning Center. As an activity of NOC’s Enrichment Program, the children worked on an interactive lesson — “This State of Mine” — that was put together by Martha Sharma, a retired geography educator. The lesson was led by NOC’s Director, Julie Palma, who used technology to guide the students through this lesson. Students worked individually and in teams to tackle various questions that required use of the websites and some basic principles in geography. The children used words such as “Location” and “Direction” to develop a mental map of the United States. They also used their personal computers to collect additional information about selected states.
