Gary Tauscher Recognized for Distinguished Service to NOC

March 22, 2019 By NOC

IMG959912

Gary Tauscher was recognized on March 20, 2019 by NOC’s Board of Directors and senior staff for his distinguished service to the organization.  Gary served as an NOC Board Director for 5 years.  During this time, he served as Chair of NOC’s Grants Committee, writing grants and providing leadership in raising significant capital to support NOC’s mission and outreach programs in Beaufort County. Gary also chaired NOC’s highly successful Special Golf event for two years, and was actively involved in frontline activities at NOC’s learning centers in Beaufort County. Dr. Narendra Sharma, Founder and Chair, praised Gary’s dedication, and outstanding work and commitment in helping NOC grow and expand its outreach programs in Beaufort County.  He also recognized Gary’s compassion for the poor, especially children, who carry the burden of poverty.

In response to the above, Gary Tauscher made the following remarks:

In the “light of day” I would like to acknowledge last night’s Board Meeting.  First of all, I want to thank Dr. Sharma for convincing me to join the NOC Board some 5 years ago.  Like you, I am amazed that the organization is ten years old and that so much has been accomplished.  More importantly, I am proud to have been a member of the “Sharma Team” and part of the evolution of the organization for the last 5 years.

There is still much to be done, and I’m convinced you will succeed in accomplishing the various goals discussed during the Board meeting.  Having worked with Dr. Sharma and the NOC program managers, teachers, and host of volunteers for five years, I think I have developed an appreciation for the challenges facing the community the Neighborhood Outreach Connection serves.  There are a number of reasons that the greater Hilton Head Community doesn’t know about NOC and what it does.  In my opinion, one of the major reasons for that lack of awareness is that our clients are not only underserved; they are also ignored by that Community.  In spite of this, the potential that they represent is worthy of the commitment the NOC organization is making on their behalf.

While I am leaving the Board, my wife, Judy and I remain committed to the mission of NOC and you can count on us as “disciples”, volunteers, and financial supporters of the Neighborhood Outreach Connection as you work towards accomplishing the NOC Mission.

NOC Celebrates St. Patrick’s Day

March 19, 2019 By NOC

DSC_0197

NOC participated in Hilton Head Island’s 36th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Sunday, March 17, 2019.

It was not by chance that NOC was a huge success.  Nearly 75 individuals representing NOC participated in the parade, including students, parents, volunteers, and staff.  NOC took the opportunity to pass out t-shirts, book bags, and information about NOC.

The parade float was made possible by several individuals and businesses who donated money to cover the cost.  In addition, Lois Hassett donated the entrance fee to the parade.

NOC was fortunate to have DJ Mar ride along on the float.  He got the crowd pumped up with his awesome music selections.

Exposure from the parade has already resulted in an increase in Facebook “Likes” and Instagram “Engagements”!

NOC looks forward to participating in future community events.

NOC Celebrates MLK Day

January 23, 2019 By NOC

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter.MLK

         Martin Luther King, Jr.

On January 21, NOC celebrated the life of Dr Martin Luther King, reflecting on his legacy. It was a great honor and privilege for members of the NOC family to participate in Hilton Head Island’s MLK march. We respect and admire a great leader and champion of human rights, freedom, and social justice. Dr. King understood the power of love, compassion, and tolerance to create a just and fair society. He saw poverty and lack of opportunity as negative forces undermining human dignity, independence, and self-reliance.

Dr. King’s work is not complete yet. We must tackle the economic and social challenges that we continue to face today … to achieve the ‘Dream’ that Dr. King spoke about more than five decades ago.  Many people still live in poverty and lack opportunities to get ahead in life. The gulf between the haves and have-nots is widening locally and worldwide. There are conflicts and suffering in every corner of the world, including in own country, the United States.

NOC’s vision, mission, and outreach programs are in line with Dr. King’s teachings and actions, as we help those in need and those who are vulnerable. We continue this work, inspired by Dr. King and other great leaders throughout the world.

Naren Sharma, Founder & Chair, NOC
