NOC Alumna Interviewed by WDM

January 31, 2018 By nocadmin

Abby

Abbey, who previously participated in NOC’s program, spoke passionately during an interview with WDM (World Design Marketing) about NOC and its impact on her over eight years. She said that she benefited immensely from NOC’s after school and summer learning programs. NOC staff, teachers, and volunteers motivated her, gave her confidence, and helped her be successful in school. She later volunteered at NOC to help other children academically and was involved in NOC’s annual health screenings. She is a successful professional now, working for a local law firm and she credits NOC with helping her achieve this outcome. NOC is proud of Abbey. She is an inspiration to others who are seeking opportunities to achieve the “American Dream.”

Joyous outings…

December 17, 2017 By nocadmin

NOC founder and chair, Narendra Sharma had fun spending time at NOC’s 6 Learning Centers as the children celebrated the end of the Fall 2017 session. The mood was festive and the atmosphere was lively and filled with much laughter. The children were cheerful and happy … there was no homework or tests to take, but plenty to eat and time to be playful. Like the NOC staff, teachers, and volunteers, Dr. Sharma felt good and equally happy to see these children so joyful and content. It was a great week …

Special Visitor at Marsh Pointe

October 23, 2017 By nocadmin

It was truly a special day for the students at the NOC Marsh Pointe Learning Center as the kids and NOC team welcomed Petty Officer Asondre Boozer to the Center.  Asondre has been in the Navy for ten years and supports the Marine Corps Detachment medical and dental corps at Parris Island. He spoke with the students about growing up in Atlanta in housing similar to Marsh Pointe. He also told them about his love in elementary school for math and science. The kids introduced themselves and also shared their favorite subjects in school.  Asondre spoke about the value of education, strong character, and setting high goals. Since October is “anti-bullying” month, students had a great discussion about being “Upstanders.” There was time for the kids to ask questions, which ranged from “Why did you decide to join the Navy?” to “Who drives the boat at night?” and “Do you always sleep in bunk beds?” The students were curious and not at all shy.  The best part came when Asondre said he looks forward to returning to NOC and next time bringing some friends from the base. NOC would also love to host them at Parkview very soon.

Disney Visits NOC Children at Oaks

October 6, 2017 By nocadmin

It was a pleasant surprise for the children at NOC’s Oaks Learning Center as they welcomed special visitors from Disney.  Jerome Smith, General Manager, and April Ford, Director, of Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort interacted with the children and were impressed with their dedication to learning. The Disney representatives delivered a generous donation to support NOC’s flagship education program.

HIGHLIGHT:  Two kids plugged in the idea of an organized trip for NOC children to visit the local Disney resort when some of the Disney characters are here.  They may just get their wish, according to the visitors. Hurrah!
